Teenage girls go online to gossip with friends while boys hit the net to flirt. A study showed a key difference in the way
young males and females use popular social networking
sites such as MySpace. But the survey revealed most teens were net savvy and protected themselves against unwanted attention from internet predators accessing their profiles. More than two thirds of teens limited access to their profiles to selected viewers who they have invited on to their page. The survey of almost 1000 US teenagers by the Pew Internet and American Life Project found every second US teen is a member of a social networking site. More than two million Australians have a MySpace profile. MySpace was the most popular site for survey respondents, with 85 per cent of teens registered, compared with just 7 per cent who have a Facebook profile. Only 5 per cent of teens view social network
sites if they don't have a profile of their
own.
